Oct. 3 Police Reports

• Larissa Nichole Hartley, 18, of the 600 block of South Lafayette Avenue, was arrested at 12:50 a.m. Thursday at Lamine Avenue and Pettis Street, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, according to Sedalia Police Department reports.


• Miguel Arroyo, of LaMonte, was arrested at 11:47 a.m. Thursday in LaMonte on a charge of driving with a revoked license, according to Pettis County Sheriff’s Department reports.

THEFTS
• Sybil Gossett, of 218 W. 24th St., reported Thursday the rear license plate was stolen from her vehicle while parked at her home, according to Sedalia Police Department reports.


• Karen J. Summers, of 1316 S. Lamine Ave., reported Thursday a fur cap, red box, blue leather gloves and sunglasses were stolen from her vehicle while parked at her home, according to Sedalia Police Department reports.


• Richard W. Sewell, of 605 N. Washington Ave., reported Thursday while parked at 3205 W. Main St., gasoline valued at $50 was stolen from his vehicle, according to Sedalia Police Department reports.


• Randy Perry, of 3000 Clinton Road, reported Thursday while working at Sedalia Automotive, 2101 S. Limit Ave., a person took a white Ford Explorer for a test drive and never returned it, according to Sedalia Police Department reports.


• Candi Perez, of Sedalia, reported Wednesday stereo equipment valued at $4,000 was stolen from her vehicle Sunday and Wednesday, according to Pettis County Sheriff’s Department reports.


• Renee Gaither, of Houstonia, reported Thursday jewelry, checks and money were stolen from her home, according to Pettis County Sheriff’s Department reports.


PROPERTY DAMAGE
• Jose C. Peres, of 809 W. Seventh St., reported Thursday the windshield of his vehicle was broken and the hood, driver’s side door and mirror were damaged, according to Sedalia Police Department reports.

Smoking paraphernalia
What is your opinion on the law prohibiting the sale of drug paraphernalia, including small water pipes or glass pipes?
Because the majority of these items are sold for smoking illegal substances, the law should ban them all.
The law that prohibits the sale of these items if the seller knows they will be used for drugs is too vague and should be repealed.
People should be able to buy whatever smoking paraphernalia they wish.
Police officers should find a better way to spend their time than arresting people for violating these types of laws.
The law is the law, and as long as it’s on the books, police officers should enforce it.
