El Rancho once the pride of Sedalia

I am heartsick reading about the El Rancho Motel site and its being such an eyesore.

The motel was built by my aunt and uncle, Wes and Lillian Morris. At its beginning, it was the motel in the Sedalia area.
The Morrises built, I think, the first motel in Sedalia  on what was then east Highway 50, but is now East 12th Street. They built probably four motels in Sedalia, including El Rancho.

They prided themselves in providing clean, modern, reputable facilities. I know this to be true as my husband and I would run the motels for them occasionally so they could get away. It would also break their hearts to see the conditon of the property.

I personally, and the community as well, owe Mr. Ditzfeld and Mr. Marcum a vote of thanks for cleaning up this area.
