Some have something to say, others don't
I read The Sedalia Democrat daily. I read the obituary column to make sure I’m still here, the sports and the opinion page. I’m neither a Democrat nor Republican.
Sometimes the letters to the editor are newsworthy, and sometimes they’re simply trash. Some people have a good opinion of what makes Sedalia tick, and there are those who simply write to read their words in print, or to spew hate, discontent, lies, innuendoes and/or a party line. Those are the most useless letters.
Monday’s letters and guest opinion are prime examples. The letter about the alley lights I have to agree with. We pay taxes so that the city can keep us safe. If street or alley lights are needed, then they are the city’s responsibility. The one about politics and a news service are an example of useless trash. I was somewhat offended by the guest opinion. There are many reasons for people to be hired to do a specific job. I really don’t think race had anything to do with this particular project. I do see many minorities working throughout this community. And I see many people laid back and too lazy to work, not necessarily minorities, and living off of you and me.
I don’t believe myself to be racist, nor my family. Too often today, the race card raises its ugly head. A prime example was the president of the United States a couple of months ago, before he had any facts.
However, as a retired veteran, I realize many, many of my fellow veterans have fought and some have died to protect the many freedoms we all enjoy. As the saying goes, “All gave some, and some gave all.”
