Voter turnout is the real problem with elections
Rose Nolen’s comments (Jan. 20) on politicians buying their offices was very informative. However, she seemed to overlook the real problem here: voter turnout. In the last election when we elected a congresswoman and senator, Pettis and Benton counties’ turnout was about 28 percent. That put these two people in Washington to represent us with about 18 percent of the people’s vote.
How can we expect anything different out of our elected officials with this kind of voter apathy? If anything needs changed about our election process, it is voter turnout.
