Government cannot reduce debt unless it cuts spending
This is my response to the Feb. 2 “Today’s Sedline:”
I would be in favor of taxing the rich more if:
• A balanced budget amendment would be passed and enforced, and
• Everyone pays taxes.
Our national debt currently stands at $15.3 trillion. The problem I see is for every dollar tax increase, the government will spend two and call for a larger tax increase again. This is not the way to reduce the deficit.
Our nation and how it manages its money has become a joke to the rest of the world. The top 2 percent are not taxed enough, the bottom 50 percent are not taxed at all, and we in the 48 percent are taxed too much. But this administration — like all administrations — spends more than it takes in.
I want a government that will reduce spending and reduce our debt; but reality sets in and we go deeper in debt.
