Sylvia Thompson residents observe birthdays in May

Genevieve Withers, of Sedalia, will observe her 78th birthday on May 13.
She was born May 13, 1931, in Sedalia. She was married to Ralph Withers, who died earlier.
She was a teacher’s aide at Washington Elementary School. She also was a 4-H aide. She enjoys cooking, gardening and canning. She is a member of Missouri Extension Service.
She has two children, David Withers and Paul Withers, both of Sedalia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Janice Williams, of Sedalia, will observe her 62nd birthday on May 10.
She was born May 10, 1947, in Windsor.
She was a dog breeder and worked on a dairy farm. She enjoys reading devotions and knitting.
She has two children, Michelle Schnackenberg, of Independence, and Matthew Williams, of Bowling Green; and four grandchildren.

Ruby Oehrke
, of Sedalia, will observe her 90th birthday on May 14.
She was born May 14, 1919. She was married to Earl Oehrke, who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She enjoys crocheting and quilting.
She has two children, Richard Oehrke and Carolyn Montgomery, both of Sedalia; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Carl Phillips, of Sedalia, will observe his 94th birthday on May 18.
He was born May 18, 1915, in Stover. He is married to Mary Jo Phillips, who lives in Sedalia.
He was a farmer. He enjoys fishing and traveling in recreation vehicles.

Dortha Woodall, of Sedalia, will observe her 88th birthday on May 19.
She was born May 19, 1921, in Oklahoma. She was married to Warren Woodall, who died earlier.
She was a food service worker. She loved traveling. She enjoys socializing.
She has three children, James DeMott and Kay Pummill, both of La Monte, and Judy Morrison, of Sedalia; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Opal Kelley, of Sedalia, will observe her 92nd birthday on May 22.
She was born May 22, 1917, in Sedalia. She is married to Maurice “Gene” Kelley, who also lives at the nursing home.
She worked at Town and Country Shoes for 36 years. She enjoys playing dominoes, playing active at her church and socializing.
She has three children, Fred Kelley, of Warsaw, Norris Kelley and Anita Smith, both of Sedalia; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Eleanor Mortenson, of Sedalia, will observe her 89th birthday on May 22.
She was born May 22, 1920. She was married to Harold Mortenson, who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She likes her flower beds. She enjoys playing bingo and being active in her church.
She has five children, Richard Mortenson and Jerry Mortenson, both of Tipton, Larry Mortenson, of Iowa, Dennis Mortenson, of California, and Sharon Todd, of Sedalia; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lowell Byrd, of Sedalia, will observe his 92nd birthday on May 30.
He was born May 30, 1917, in Ohio. He is married to Ina Byrd, who also lives at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
He worked at the state school in Marshall. He is a member of Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shriner’s Club and Order of the Eastern Star.
He has a son, the late Gary Dean Byrd; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Sharon Painter
, of Sedalia, will observe her 66th birthday on May 31.
She was born May 31, 1943, in Biloxi, Miss.
She was a secretary and librarian. She enjoys playing the piano, knitting, reading and watching television.
