The following Sedline comments were published on Page 2 of the Democrat's print edition over the past few weeks:

“I was reading about the ... the Uptown Theatre. I recall when I saw those pictures ... back in the early ‘60s, going to shows up there and how, me being African-American, we had to sit in the balcony. At the Fox Theater it was the same thing. That was a sad time back then, in Sedalia and in the world, when segregation was going on. Of course, the balconies were pretty good seats, and when the white people found out about that they wanted to sit in the balconies, also.” (OCT. 1-2)

“We are excited about the remodeling of W-K Chevrolet in Sedalia. Everything will be updated and have a new look. ... Shopping there has been a pleasure.” (Oct. 3)

“The ‘Tiger Swagger’ trailer was probably the most exuberant bunch in the parade. If there was an award to give for exuberance, they would definitely be in for that.” (Oct. 4)

“Here I sit at the stop light at 16th Street and Clarendon Road/Thompson Boulevard. The fair is over. Please, please, please somebody change this light so we don’t have to sit here so long.” (OCT. 5)

“I am sick and tired of politicians, churches and ignorant people living in a dream world, thinking we have it so great in America when millions are homeless or out of work ... This country is no better than China or Nazi Germany.” (Oct. 6)

“Well our past county commissioner used to know what a lawnmower was out in the county; apparently our current county commissioner doesn’t know how to mow county roads. It’s a jungle out there.” (Oct. 7)

“To the person driving the green truck down Park (Avenue) by Liberty Park Saturday morning at about 9:15 a.m., you need to pay attention. You had a kitten up under your truck; it was very loud , and it upset me. I know you heard it, but you didn’t care. Shame, shame on you.” (oct. 8-9)

“Yes my friends, it is Friday ... gas has gone up 10 cents when it never came down more than three or four cents.” (Oct. 10)

“According to government statistics, 89 percent of President Obama’s jobs stimulus bill would be paid for by lowering tax deduction on the wealth elite in this country. I think it is time they paid their fair share.” (Oct. 11)

“I have a problem with several of the different restaurants ... in Sedalia. Two different places I have seen people drop the tongs, like for French fries, and put it back up to be used by the next person. ... All you people who work at restaurants, please beware, we don’t want germs from things falling on the floor.” (Oct. 12)

“How dare (a Sedline caller say) the guy who owns Eddie’s Drive-In should just go ahead and close it? ... It has been an historic building, it has built many lives around it. ... George has chosen to keep his business open. ... If the caller doesn’t like Eddie’s Drive-In, just go someplace else.” (Oct. 13)

“When city officials read the new demolition bids, will each of the owners be told in advance the amount of the lien that will be placed on their property? They might change their mind and do the work themselves.” (Oct. 14)

“Thanks to the couple who are now taking care of the lawn at the Little Red Schoolhouse. It looks better than it has in a long time.” (Oct. 15)

“They are always talking about closing all these little local post offices. Why don’t they close the one in Sedalia? ... You can go in there at any time and stand 10 or 12 people in line and nobody will come help you and only one person is working.” (Oct. 17)

“As of Sept. 30 this year, Operation Enduring Freedom has cost 1,777 American lives. Total cost: $557.1 billion. Enough is enough. It is time to come home, save human lives and spend the money on our own country and our own people.” (Oct. 18)

“I’m all for religion and ministers. Many people give money according to what they can afford, that includes senior center meals, donations to many organizations. These people give from the heart. Who is qualified to tell anyone how much to give?” (Oct. 19)

“The price of diesel fuel in Sedalia is 28 cents a gallon higher than it is in Dresden and other places around Sedalia.” (Oct. 20)

“Many thanks to Rufus. It’s a long time coming. You lost your job, but you showed kindness.” (Oct. 21)

“What is with the hay bales at the front door of the Amtrak train station? Extra seating? Surely visitors on the train must think we are a bunch of country hicks.”  (OCT. 22)

“I wanted to make a note about damage being done on car lots around town. It makes me wonder why don’t they have cameras that can catch a person doing that?” (Oct. 24)

“This is to the cashier at Bing’s West who was kind enough to loan me the 16 cents I was short on my order. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You don’t know how much it was appreciated.” (Oct. 25)

“Once again Stephanie Lefevers had a very good column. She said some very true things. Accountability needs to be taught to children at home and at school. It could start with teaching teens to pick up after themselves.”  (OCT. 26)

“I am a Sedalia resident and I notice all the Sedlines are addressing all the higher gas prices in Sedalia as opposed to all the outlying cities, which are 10 to 15 cents cheaper. I am one person who does not buy fuel in Sedalia and I think more people should be like that so Sedalia fuel suppliers understand we are trying to survive, too. Give us a break.”  (Oct. 27)

“I am glad to see the unemployed homeless rising up against our current system of government. We sent 54,000 boys to death in Vietnam when our own government is becoming a socialist fascist corporate police state, destroying our constitution and freedoms in America with the Patriot Act, which phone taps pour phones and spies on our citizens. This is nothing but fascism, communism and neo-Nazism in America.” (Oct. 28)

“There are some nice people in Sedalia, like the couple who stopped to help me and my daughter to get the heavy things out of our garage ... for cleanup week. I don’t know their names but I sure want to thank them.” (Oct. 29)

“We would like a break on prices on gasoline, too. But we cannot afford to drive to other cities to save. You would have to purchase many, many gallons of gas to save very much.” (Oct. 30)

“To the lady who pulled out of the Post Office parking lot and went the wrong way on the one-way street ... she almost ran over me. And then you’ve got all the people who park on the yellow lines all over town, especially at Papa Jake’s.” (Oct. 31)

“I would like to see the city contact the railroad and force them to fix the crossings in Sedalia. I cross the Emmitt and Engineer one quite often and they are terrible. There is rebar showing where the concrete has just fallen apart.” (Nov. 1)

“Hey, Pettis County R-V, if you think that chili supper replaced the turkey supper, come on. I had three bowls of chili and each one was different. I assume you go to a restaurant and having consistency. Let’s work on it.” (Nov. 2)

“The Chamber of Commerce and the Republican Party are asking for a 20 percent flat tax. Does this surprise anyone?” (Nov. 3)

“At 9 p.m. Wednesday, former President George W. Bush made a visit to Goldman Sachs in New York City. What do you think that was all about?” (Nov. 5)

“We would like to know where the Pettis County R-V booster club money from last year went.” (Nov. 7)

“I think somebody is taking advantage of the hard-working citizens of Sedalia. Maybe we need to get together and pick two days where we don’t buy one drop of gas from our fair gas vendors in Sedalia.” (Nov. 8)

“I hope all the people in America who have been mesmerized by Hollywood and football games and who think homelessness and unemployment is funny see what is happening across America with the Wall Street protests. You have been had and lied to by a corrupt government and corporate greed. The middle class is now living in poverty.” (Nov. 9)

“We’ve lost Steve Jobs, Johnny Cash and Bob Hope, but they  are still with us in our new economy: No Jobs, no Cash, no Hope.” (Nov. 10)

“I would like to thank the Open Door food pantry for all the food we have been given lately. It is a shame that some people will come and take 50 to 60 bags of free carrots or onions. Greed is what is wrong with this country, not Obama. ... Stop feeding your hogs.” (Nov. 11)

“The headlines read, ‘New formula would reduce increases for Social Security.’ Well, we can thank our Republican-controlled Congress for this. Also, the article stated there would be fewer children over time who would qualify for Head Start and school lunch programs. Thanks for always cutting the middle class.” (Nov. 14)

“I believe the City Council needs to change the building code laws right away, and make provisions that if people don’t pay their lien fine on a dilapidated building situation, that in one year’s time the city becomes the owner. ... Change the rules — we don’t want to wait 10 years.” (Nov. 15)

“I want to thank whoever took my daughter’s bagged aluminum cans from the container in our back yard; we were getting ready to sell them. She’s pretty upset about it. Why the heck did you do it?” (Nov. 16)

“I don’t know how people can get food stamps. I live in my car and I went to that Project Homeless thing. They told me I should go apply for food stamps, and they told me I have too much stuff. ... I guess you’ve got to be flat-down, face-down dead on the ground to get food stamps.” (Nov. 17)

“Isn’t it a shame the Galaxy Theater can show movies with all kinds of violence, filthy language, rape and murder, but will not show Christian movies such as ‘Courageous’ and ‘Joyful Noise.’” (Nov. 19)
