Smiley anniversary

H. Wallace and Myrtle Smiley, longtime residents of Houstonia who recently moved to DeSoto, will observe their 70th wedding anniversary on April 9.

Myrtle Butts and H. Wallace Smiley were married April 9, 1939, in the parsonage of Houstonia Community Church.

Mr. Smiley retired from the Northwest School District. He was formerly the mayor of Houstonia.

Mrs. Smiley is a homemaker and was a private piano teacher.

They have four children, John Smiley, of Gilbert, Ariz., Marilyn Ellis, of DeSoto, Susanne Kessler, of Winona Lake, Ind., and Beverly Varner, of Denison, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
