Coordinator wins award

Kathy Ray-Smith, of Warrensburg, was named a winner of the second annual Attorney General’s Justice Awards.

Ray-Smith is Care Connection regional ombudsman coordinator. She received the Consumer and Senior Protection Award for her efforts as an advocate for nursing home residents. She also trains a network of volunteers in the Care Connection 13 county service area for ombudsman work and provides elder abuse education.

Ray-Smith became the coordinator 15 years ago.
