Sedalia VFW post in need of wheelchairs

Pettis County Post No. 2591 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is in need of wheelchairs for veterans or anyone else who may need one.

Larry Stevenson, quartermaster of the post, said there are 60 to 70 wheelchairs loaned out to people throughout the county right now, but the need continues.

The wheelchairs are loaned out or given to area veterans at no cost, Stevenson said, but at the moment, the post has no wheelchairs available.

It is a general policy of the post to help veterans and their spouses, but Stevenson said they will not turn away anyone in need.

The post has a good supply of porta-potties, bathtub stools, crutches, canes, and walkers, but is still in need of wheelchairs.

“We’re always short of wheelchairs,” Stevenson said.

Anyone wanting to donate a wheelchair may contact the post at 660-826-4543. The post is located at 121 S. Ohio Ave.
