Law Day cases Oct. 19
Judge Robert L. Koffman heard the following cases Oct. 19 in Pettis County Circuit Court, according to Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Mittelhauser:
•Eric Wayne Dotson, 30, of Sedalia, was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail for failure to comply with the sex offender registration laws. He registered as required on Aug. 18, 2008, but did not fulfill the requirement that he confirm the registration information every 90 days. Pettis County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Sam Hargrave was unable to locate Dotson at his last registered address when he tried to find him Nov. 25.
•David Higginbotham, 47, of Stover, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in connection with a June 3 arrest by Missouri Highway Patrol Cpl. Mark DeGraffenreid. The state recommended a 180-day county jail sentence, and the case was continued for sentencing.
•Eric Kadtke, 30, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to two felony driving while intoxicated charges. He was arrested March 6 after Trooper Larry Nelson heard a vehicle loudly accelerating on Main Street and then found the defendant picking his motorcycle off the ground at East Main Street and North Ohio Avenue. Then, on June 20, Cpl. Mark DeGraffenreid arrested Kadtke after he wrecked his motorcycle on Maplewood Lane. He was also charged with driving with a revoked license on June 20 because the earlier arrest triggered a revocation of his driving privileges. His blood alcohol content was above the legal limit of 0.08 percent after both arrests. The court ordered a sentencing assessment report and set a sentencing hearing Jan. 13.
•Antonio Marcos Quetzecua, 21, of Sedalia, was sentenced to serve three years in prison on two driving while intoxicated charges. He was first arrested May 10 when Trooper Larry Nelson found him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at West 16th Street and South Limit Avenue. Then, on June 2, Sedalia Patrolman Coleman Bryan arrested Quetzecua after other drivers reported seeing him passed out in a vehicle at West 16th Street and South Barrett Avenue. Quetzecua tested above the legal limit after both arrests. The offenses were felonies because Quetzecua has at least two prior DWI convictions.
•Tristan Spencer, 23, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree and was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail. On April 21, Sedalia Patrolman Daniel Benner went to Spencer’s home at 1519 S. Harrison Ave. to check on the well being of a child after a neighbor reported seeing a very young child playing unattended in the street. After making several unsuccessful attempts to get anyone to answer the door, officers entered the home. They found three children under the age of 4 in the home while co-defendant John Ray Brown was asleep. Officers also found unsanitary conditions in the home, including spoiled food and dog feces on the floor.
•Amy Winsauer, 28, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to forgery and was placed on probation for five years. During an investigation by Sedalia Patrolman Chet Mackiewicz, Winsauer admitted she forged and passed checks on Paul Paxton’s checking account in August. Winsauer was ordered to serve 60 days in jail as shock detention and pay restitution totaling $465.
•On Oct. 20, Dakota Criner, 18, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to burglary in the second degree and stealing in connection with a June 24 theft from Rolando Diaz-Morales on Ball Road. Criner admitted to Pettis County Sheriff’s Deputy Javier Gonzalez that he had stolen several items from the home, and then returned the stolen property after a neighbor, who was acquainted with Criner, interrupted the burglary. Criner was placed on probation for five years with requirements that he serve 60 days in jail as shock detention and perform 120 hours of community service work.
•Also on October 20, Judge Koffman revoked the probation of William Parker, 31, of Greenwood, and ordered him to serve a sentence of three years. Parker was placed on probation in 2006 on a felony driving while intoxicated charge. He violated the terms of his probation by consuming alcohol and driving a motor vehicle April 8 in Lee’s Summit.
