Man who entered S-C High School pleads guilty to making terrorist threat

A Kansas City man who entered Smith-Cotton High School during a senior dinner fundraiser in November pled guilty to making a terrorist threat.

During the event at the school, Michael Frederick, 19, who is enlisted in the U.S. Army, approached several students and a school administrator and told them that the Army instructed him to advise area schools that escaped convicts planned to kidnap several students.

An investigation by the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office revealed that no such threat existed.

Frederick was arrested several days later after a school principal in Kearney identified him from photos taken by school security cameras.

Frederick was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail last week in Pettis County Circuit Court by Judge Robert Koffman, according to Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Mittelhauser.

Upon completion of the sentence, Frederick faces military discipline for being absent without leave.
