Highway Patrol: Text messaging leads to crash in Morgan County

A Stover woman was injured Wednesday after being struck by a driver who was text messaging, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Becky L. Burkhart, 28, was transported to University Hospital in Columbia shortly after 10 p.m. with serious injuries, according to a Highway Patrol report.

Burkhart was southbound on state Route 5 in Morgan County when she was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Boonville resident Teddy W. Newell. Troopers reported the accident occurred as Newell was text messaging while driving.

No charges or summons were issued in the accident.
