Blue ribbon certificate winners named

Wanda Seward, Delores Rehmer, and Leora Bremer have been awarded Blue Ribbon certificates for their kindness and concern for a fellow student in their basket weaving class at State Fair Community College.

At the end of a basket making class on Oct. 31, one of the students had chest pains accompanied by dizziness. Two classmates who are nurses, Delores Rehmer and Leora Bremer, who is also a former State Fair instructor, came to the student’s aid. After checking the student’s pulse and respirations, an ambulance was called.

Bremer and Wanda Seward, the course instructor, notified the student’s spouse and took the spouse to the hospital. State Fair Community College staff who assisted with the incident were Shonna Dady, administrative assistant for associate deans, and Kelli Miller, assistant volleyball coach.

Presenting the award were Blue Ribbon Steering Committee members Dianne Simon and Judy Parkhurst. Also attending the presentation were President Marsha Drennon; Dr. Michael Ash, vice president for student services; and Dr. Brent Bates, vice president for educational services.
