She was a cashier at Dollar General. She enjoys going to garage sales.
She has three children, Dwayne Lane, of Florida, Shirley Maples, of Sedalia, and Kenny Lane, of Garden City; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Dorothy Tunis observed her 86th birthday on Jan. 1.
She was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Coleman, Texas. She was married to Russell Tunis, who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She enjoys playing bingo and watching movies.
She has four children, Terry Tunis and Sharon Nothwehr, both of Sedalia, Brenda Roberts, of Osceola, and the late Ronnie Tunis.

Edythe Ward observed her 86th birthday on Jan. 3.
She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Sedalia. She was married to Phillip Ward Sr., who died earlier.
She was a homemaker. She enjoys sewing, traveling and sightseeing.

Vesta “Jean” Akins will observe her 92nd birthday on Sunday.
She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Kansas City, Kan. She was married to Gerald Akins, who died earlier.
She was a registered nurse. She enjoys knitting.

Bernice Phillips will observe her 94th birthday on Jan. 15.
She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Sedalia. She was married to Irvin Phillips, who died earlier.
She worked at Lamy’s and was also a manager of Conner Wagner. She enjoys gardening, plants, the Jolly Elders, helping neighbors and friends and working outdoors.
She has a daughter, Shirley Jennings, of Kansas. She also raised her granddaughter, Cindy Goodson, from birth and has three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Anna Dorrell will observe her 93rd birthday on Jan. 15.
She was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Kansas City. She was married to Orbin Dorrell, who died earlier.

Eugene “Gene” Embry will observe his 80th birthday on Jan. 22.

He was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Montpelier, Vt. He was married to Lilyan Hebert, who died earlier.
He was in the Air Force and worked at the CMSU print shop. He enjoys playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
