It was a shock for me when I paid my personal taxes on my 12-year old car. My goodness gracious, a $40,000 Cadillac van, their taxes are probably over $900. That’s due to the school taxes. My taxes more than doubled. That just does not seem right.

This an alumni of Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, Mo. Be sure and vote on your preference on the high school name in the boondocks.

I opened up my taxes and to my surprise, I see that my taxes for my property has been raised over $200. I really wish the people who voted in to have a new school built was the ones who were paying for the new school. ... Everything is going up. We got $3 a gallon gas. Everything is going up, except for pay. When you work for $5 and $6 an hour and you are expected to pay these kinds of increases. People who are on Social Security, living off $600 or $700 a month, we don’t have the option of getting more money. We are working, and we are doing the best we can. We are just not sitting in offices where we can earn big paychecks. But it takes all kinds of people to make the world go around.

I believe the Chamber of Commerce should leave copies of the city map at all motels. When people come in for a place to live, I believe the city should provide city maps and they should be with dark ink. And they also should be left at the courthouse.

About three or four years ago, we had an intruder in our house. At that time, I called a city councilman and asked him about a city curfew. He said he thought we had one. I said, well, it’s not being enforced. Obviously, it’s still isn’t being enforced if we have one. We have people wandering around this town every night. Every morning I hear on the news all the vandalism that’s going on. Why don’t we have a curfew? And why don’t we have it enforced? Our crime rate is the responsibility of some inept people in the City Council not seeing that these laws are passed and used for the safety of the citizens of Sedalia.

While a daily TV grid might be more accurate, it can’t provide the convenience of a compact easily held weekly TV magazine. Having a weekly guide enables the user to plan viewing and taping schedules in advance. Please reconsider retaining a weekly TV magazine rather than a daily grid.

I am calling in regard to employers not insisting that their employees wear protective gloves when preparing food. I thought it was the law.

Name our new high school George Whiteman. He have gave his life on Dec. 7 years ago for all of us. I never forgot him. He was Sedalia’s own hero.

I am sick and tired of hearing how good we have it in this country when the price of groceries and gas and home heating fuel is at outrageous prices.
