Sylvia Thompson residents observe birthdays in August

Doris “Elaine” Linn observed her 82nd birthday on Saturday.
She was born Aug. 1, 1927.
She was a church secretary and worked at ACF Industries. She was a member of a traveling club and of a dancing club. She was a hospital volunteer in St. Charles.
She has seven children, Phillip Hornbostel, of Sedalia, Rowland Hornbostel, Steve Hornbostel, Chris Hornbostel, Bruce Linn, Roger Linn and Scott Linn; and several grandchildren.

Eula Harms will observe her 79th birthday on Monday.
She was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Pettis County.
She worked at Mode-O-Day in Kansas City and operated a restaurant in Sedalia. She used to enjoy dancing and playing cards.
She has two sons, Gary Harms, of Sedalia, and Larry Harms, of Independence; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Violet Rymek
will observe her 92nd birthday on Aug. 11.
She was born Aug. 11, 1917.
She was a factory worker. She enjoys plants, fishing, reading, attending church and visiting with others.
She has a daughter, Jo Anne Dascola, of Chicago.

Hazel Hieronymus will observe her 89th birthday on Aug. 13.
She was born Aug. 13, 1920. She was married to James Hieronymus, who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She enjoys embroidering quilts and doing ceramics. She loved attending Sedalia Jolly Elders meetings.
She has a son, James Hieronymus Jr., of Sedalia; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Phoebe Laurin will observe her 101st birthday on Aug. 19.
She was born Aug. 19, 1908, in Lincoln.
She was a real estate secretary and restaurant owner. She used to enjoy quilting, crocheting and reading. Now she enjoys watching television and taking car rides.
She has a niece, Charlotte Mills, of Mesa, Wash.; a nephew, Jim Wright, of Grandview, Wash., and close friend, Stacy Jeffries.

Hazel Rieber
will observe her 91st birthday on Aug. 19.
She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Georgia. She has been married to her husband, Francis, for 62 years.
She was a hotel waitress and a door-to-door saleswoman. She worked at Spiegel clothing store and was a manger of Petty Mart in St. Charles. She used to teach flower arranging classes. She enjoys fishing, boating, quilting, embroidering and sewing. She used to own horses and enjoyed taking care of them.
She has two children, William Webb, of Sedalia, and Patricia Rumph, of Charleston, S.C.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchild.

Mary V. Cox will observe her 89th birthday on Aug. 27.
She was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Prairie Home. She was married to Grant Cox, who died earlier.
She owned a drapery business. She enjoys sewing and embroidering. She is a member of the Methodist Women’s Club. She was a Sunday school teacher.
She has three children, Stanley Cox, of Sedalia, Cathy Boyd, of Lenexa, Kan., and Barry Cox, of Gretna, La.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Almyra Bozarth will observe her 87th birthday on Aug. 27.
She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Pettis County. She was married to Bud Bozarth, who died earlier.
She was a homemaker and a seamstress at Lamy Manufacturing Co. for 30 years. She taught Sunday school for 45 years. She loves doing crafts, crocheting and quilting.
She has two children, Betty Hall, of Hughesville, and Kathy Eldridge, of Cibolo, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lavera Griggs will observe her 93rd birthday on Aug. 28.
She was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Nebraska. She was married to Charles Griggs, who died earlier.
She sold Avon and was a housewife. She served on the Sedalia Senior Center Council for 10 years and played piano in a kitchen band. She sang in the church choir and enjoys playing the piano and organ.
She has three children, Ted Griggs, of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and the late Clarence Griggs and Charlotte Marie Craig; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Raymond Spencer will observe his 88th birthday on Aug. 28.
He was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Kansas City. He was married to Eleanor Spencer, who died earlier.
He was a mechanic at the Kansas City Star. He enjoys watching the Yankees play baseball. He also likes jazz and electric guitars.
He has three children, Karla French, of Green Ridge, Regina Smith, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Larry Spencer, of Independence; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
