ROUNDUP: Lady Tigers take third

Northwest, Knob Noster win in volleyball

Smith-Cotton placed three runners in the top 20 Friday night  to finish third in a 14-team girls cross country meet in Warrensburg.

The Lady Tigers finished with 87 points. Blue Springs South won with 49. Lee’s Summit was second with 70.

Jenny Paul placed third overall in 16 minutes, 22.93 seconds. Claire Waldo was fourth in 16:24.22. Elizabeth Ulmer was 20th in 17:39.44.

Marlee Tegenkamp, of Lee’s Summit, won the race in 15:44.07. Samantha Nightingale, of Blue Springs South, took second in 15:51.88.

Makayla Rupp finished 28th in 17:59.20. Brianna Platt was 33rd in 18:05.54. Allison Nevels was 34th in 18:07.56.

Morgan Hamilton was 63rd in 19:00.38.

Smith-Cotton’s boys placed 13th out of 16 teams.

Lee’s Summit North won with 20 points. Lee’s Summit was second with 96.

Matt Lange was Smith-Cotton’s top finisher. He placed 67th in 15:25.65.

Cooper Mittelhauser was 71st in 15:29.13. Jacoby Gepford was 82nd in 15:38.49.

Anthony Beck was 107th in 16:12.54. Curtis Rae was 111th in 16:22.54.

Brett Lang was 129th in 16:39.02. James Pabon was 151st in 17:11.03.

Adam Volkert, of Lee’s Summit, won in 13:17.56. Collin Hubert, of Lee’s Summit North, was second in 13:30.27.

VOLLEYBALL

Warrensburg 2, Smith-Cotton 0

Smith-Cotton gave West Central Conference rival Warrensburg a stiff challenge in the first game of their volleyball match on Thursday night at Warrensburg.

Warrensburg held off Smith-Cotton 32-30 in the first  game and swept the match 25-18 in the second.

No individual statistics were reported.

Northwest 2, Tipton 0

The Northwest Lady Mustangs beat the Tipton volleyball team 25-11, 25-21 on Thursday night at Tipton.

Whitney Brown paced Northwest with 21 assists. Meredith Norfleet had 10 kills and four digs.

Mariah Wiskur had five kills and one service ace. Shadow Wiskur had six kills and two blocks for the Lady Mustangs.

Lorelei Schlomer added two kills, three digs and two service aces.

Blair Oaks 2, Warsaw 0

The Warsaw volleyball team dropped its third match in four tries Thursday night near Jefferson City. Blair Oaks won 25-17, 25-13.

Jessica Cook had five kills and one kill-block for the Wildcats. Holly Roellig had five kills.

Hannah Spry had 11 assists and one kill-block. Kasey Goodsell had four digs.

Blair Oaks won the junior varsity match 25-27, 25-14, 25-16 and the freshman match 25-13, 25-3.

Knob Noster 2, Clinton 0

The Knob Noster volleyball team fought off Clinton on Thursday night to win the first game and used a 9-0 run in the second to complete the sweep. Knob Noster won 25-22, 25-14.

Christina Jones had 10 assists, eight digs, three service aces, two kills and one block for the Panthers, who improved to 3-0.

Britney Murphy had six kills, two service aces and one dig. Autumn Kolkmeier had five digs, four service aces and two kills.

Clinton won the junior varsity match 26-24, 25-19.

SOFTBALL

Warsaw 11, Eldon 0

Kelli Wenberg threw five one-hit innings Thursday to lead the Warsaw Wildcats to a Tri-County Conference victory in softball.

She struck out nine and walked three in a game shortened because of the mercy rule.

Five Warsaw players had two hits each as part of the Wildcats’ 11-hit attack.

Haeley Kreisel went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Megan Palmer went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and one run scored.

Shawnah Kee went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Kristina Strader went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Wenberg went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
