Clay M. Venable, Warsaw
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Clay Marland Venable, 78, of Warsaw, formerly of Sedalia, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, in Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Kansas City, a son of Estil and Anna Yeager Venable. On Dec. 14, 1979, in Sedalia, he was married to Lois Bohon, who survives of the home.
He was a Navy seaman during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Roanoke. He was awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal with European clasp. He was a barber in Sedalia, Climax Springs and Camdenton. He had barbershops in several locations in Sedalia. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He played the guitar and banjo and enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. His hobbies included wood carving, painting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed traveling to music festivals in Missouri and Arkansas.
Also surviving are two daughters, Pam Hockaday, and her husband, John, and Dana Suzanne Watring, and her husband, Mark, all of Sedalia; two brothers, Jackson Venable, of Amarillo, Texas, and Virgil Venable, of Sedalia; a sister, Pat Belsha, of Hunstville, Ala.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Kreisel; and a brother, Gene Venable.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Cemetery in rural Sedalia, with the Rev. Donald Allcorn officiating. Pallbearers will be Buck Venable, Herb Venable, Jerry Venable, Clay Venable, Kelly Venable and Jackie Venable. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
