PREP ROUNDUP: Knight, Lady Tigers start 2-0 in volleyball

State champ Gremlins open with 2-0 win

Katie Knight dominated up front Thursday night to lead the Smith-Cotton volleyball team to a 2-1 victory over Odessa.
Smith-Cotton won 25-18, 19-25, 25-20.

Knight had 22 kills and four stuff blocks.

Kristi Miller had 27 assists and four kills.

Sacred Heart 2, Crest Ridge 0

The Sacred Heart Gremlins began defense of their Class 1 state volleyball title with a 25-16, 25-12, sweep of Crest Ridge on Thursday night near Centerview.

“The girls played very smooth with a few mistakes,” Sacred Heart coach David Fall said. “Most  of them were related to communication.”

Laura McMullin paced Sacred Heart with 11 kills and four blocks. Courtney Curtiss had team-highs of 11 assists, seven digs and three service aces. Kelsey Baldwin had nine service points.

Sacred Heart won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-22.

Green Ridge 3, Lakeland 2

Megan Askey, McKenna Dixon and Laurel Larimore had 12 kills each in the Green Ridge volleyball team’s  28-26, 25-18, 18-25, 17-25, 15-12 victory near Deepwater.

Ashley Hampton had 17 assists, and Savannah Williams had five blocks.

Kristen Morton and Torey Williams had 10 digs apiece.

Lincoln 2, Skyline 1

Audra Blackburn’s defense and Shyanne Swearngin’s leadership on Thursday night helped the Lincoln volleyball team beat Skyline 25-19, 22-25, 30-28.

Swearngin led Lincoln with 13 assists, and Blackburn had 19 digs.

Rachel Young paced the Lady Cardinals with six kills, and Alex Cook had a team-high 12 service points.

Skyline won the junior varsity match 25-22, 22-25, 25-16.

Eldon 2, Warsaw 0

The Warsaw volleyball team lost its home opener Thursday night,  25-16, 25-14, against Eldon.

Jessica Cook had six kills and five digs for Warsaw, which fell to 0-2.

Hannah Spry had 11 assists and five digs. Holly Roellig added four kills.

Eldon won the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-14.  The teams split a two-game freshman match.

Warsaw won the first game 25-20. Eldon won the second 25-16.

Lone Jack 2, Sweet Springs 0

The Sweet Springs volleyball team dropped its season opener Thursday night at Lone Jack, 25-11, 25-14.

Stephanie Krause paced Sweet Springs with four kills. Kathleen Tyler had five assists.

Morgan Fuehring had five digs, and Kristin Jones had four blocks for the Greyhounds.
