Susan Phillips, Hughesville
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Susan Diane Phillips, 47, of Hughesville, died Thursday, July, 12, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born Dec. 13, 1959, in Sedalia, a daughter of Richard and Ruth Ann Rayl Phillips.
She was a 1978 graduate of Camdenton High School. After graduation, she was a child-care worker in various day care centers. She then became a counselor at the juvenile detention center in the Ozark area. She loved doing crafts and making something out of nothing. She enjoyed working with her aunt, Kay Shull, at Kay’s Crafts.
In July 2001, she moved to Houstonia and began working for McLaughlin Bros. Furniture Co., where she was in charge of The Gift Gallery. She represented McLaughlin Bros. on the Downtown Promotion Committee, organizing and promoting special events downtown.
She was a member of Women of the Moose, Sedalia Chapter 1242, where she served on the ritual team. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and participated in the Relay for Life. She also was a member of the Sedalia Charter Chapter of American Business Women’s Association, serving a term as vice president and on the hospitality committee. She was an active supporter of her children’s education and activities. She was a member of PTO and athletic and music booster clubs. In 2006, she moved to Hughesville and became a member of Hughesville Baptist Church.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Ruth Ann and Lloyd Yankee, of Hughesville; two sons, Curtis Paul Hair, of Marshfield, and Mason Grant Brown, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Hair, and her husband, Andrew, of Marshfield, and Rebecca Diane Lane, of the home; two sisters, Becky Cressley, of Houstonia, and Teresa Phillips, of Hughesville; two stepbrothers, Phillip Yankee, of Sedalia, and Wayne Yankee, of California; four stepsisters, Linda Warren, of Sweet Springs, Janice Phillips and Terry Hopkins, both of Sedalia, and Judy Rollert, of Smithville; and two grandchildren, Alyssa Fordyce and Nicole Fordyce.
She was predeceased by her father in 1972.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with Brother Jack Conard officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Phillips, John Birdwell, Don Arnold, Joseph Rylott, Rod Sullivan and John Porter. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Rayl and Ron Phillips. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Susan Phillips Children’s Education Fund, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
