State Fair Community College is among nine Missouri community colleges that will invest $15 million through MOManufacturingWINs, a statewide training network that will create opportunities for Missourians to obtain specialized training to begin careers in modern manufacturing.

The collection of public two-year colleges is collaborated through the Missouri Community College Association to apply for the federal job training funds. According to a news release, they will work together to implement a certification training model endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers “to enable students to earn industry-recognized credentials to obtain good-paying jobs upon certification and graduation.”

Gov. Jay Nixon made the announcement during a visit to Metropolitan Community College’s Business and Technology campus, where he toured advanced manufacturing training classrooms and visited with students.

“We are committed to ensuring that our workforce has the latest training and certifications needed to attract more manufacturing jobs to Missouri,” Nixon said. “This investment in Missouri’s community colleges is an investment in our economy and our future.”

The effort is expected to provide educational opportunities for about 3,300 Missourians, including unemployed adult learners who are seeking new careers. Targeted skills include production, industrial maintenance, welding, machining and transportation and logistics.

The other eight participating colleges are East Central College in Union, Linn State Technical College in Linn, Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mineral Area College in Park Hills, North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, St. Charles Community College and St. Louis Community College.
