Henry Sweets, executive director of Mark Twain’s Boyhood Home and Museum in Hannibal, will be at Marshall Public Library at 2 p.m. Saturday as part of the library’s adult summer reading program.

Sweets will discuss how Mark Twain drew from Hannibal’s people, events and places in writing “Tom Sawyer.” Participants will learn how a Samuel Clemens, a small boy growing up in the village of Hannibal, came to be one of the most beloved authors in the world. Sweets will place particular emphasis on his formative years in Hannibal and experiences that Clemens later used in many of his works.

As a follow-up to Sweets’ presentation, the Marshall Public Library will host a showing of the movie “Tom Sawyer” at 1:15 p.m. Sunday. This is the movie version of the novel that was filmed in Arrow Rock in 1973.

The library staff encourage those interested in attending to register for the show by calling 660-886-3391.
