A Pittsburg, Mo., man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a passenger in his vehicle was killed in a crash at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in Johnson County.

Bretton B. Ripley, 30,  was driving east on state Route 58 when he drove off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Ripley and a passenger in his vehicle, Stephanie R. Huffman, 31, of Holden, were transported by Life Flight to St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City with serious injuries. A third passenger, Mary E. Webb, 24, of Holden, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Reports indicate no one was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
