Iglesia Luterana Amigos de Cristo, of Sedalia, recently received a $5,000 Lutheran Community Economic Outreach Bridge Grant from the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation. The funding was awarded based on Amigos’ effectiveness in addressing basic needs of the local community such as food, clothing or shelter. Amigos de Cristo has also elected to participate in a complementary two-to-one challenge grant program sponsored by the foundation. For every dollar raised from donors by Amigos de Cristo by March 31, the foundation will provide an additional 50 cents — up to $5,000 — in support of the organization’s food/clothing/shelter ministry. Nicole Gadt, AmeriCorps VISTA grant writer/fundraiser for Amigos, accepts the $5,000 check from Steve Nichols, local financial associate for Thrivent Financial.
