Found cash leads to drug arrests

An arrest for trespassing led Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies to find a stash of meth, marijuana and cash in a Stover home.


According to reports, on Aug. 22, Brandon E. Mcgee, 27, of Stover, was riding an ATV through private property in the northeast area of Benton County. When property owners caught Mcgee he assaulted them with the ATV and fled on foot. Property owners found $23,000 in cash that Mcgee was allegedly carrying and alerted authorities.


On Aug. 23, the DEA, Mid-Missouri Task Force and sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at a home in the 700 block of Rush Road in Stover, where Mcgee was believed to be living. Officers found meth, marijuana, Oxycontin, mushrooms and $1,400 in cash, as well as drug packaging materials.


Janet L. Whitney, 50, and Gary R. Whitney, 51, both of Stover, were arrested on charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance in Morgan County. Mcgee was arrested on a charge of assault in Benton County.


All three were taken to Morgan County Jail where Gary Whitney is being held on a $25,000 bond and Janet Whitney and Mcgee are both held on $20,000 bonds.
