Sedalia Police Department officers and the Missouri State Highway Patrol bomb squad were called to a residence Saturday after an apparent pipe bomb was found.

According to reports, around 1:08 p.m. a relative of a deceased person was cleaning his apartment in the 18000 block of East Fifth Street and found what appeared to be a pipe bomb. When officers arrived, a perimeter was set up and area residents were evacuated while officers from the MSHP bomb squad checked the device. Reports indicate there were no explosive materials inside the device and it was rendered useless.

Because the device maker was deceased, no charges were filed.
