Hale honored with $1,000

Veterans Madeline and Kenneth Hale, of the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg received a visit from members of the Blue Springs American Legion Post 499 and Auxiliary. As a former prisoner of war of World War II , the post and auxiliary honored Hale with a check for $1,000. He served in the Air Force as a first lieutenant from June 1941 through December 1945. He flew B-17’s during the war over Germany and France. On Hale’s 32nd mission, his plane was disabled, and he and his crew parachuted and were captured by German troops and placed in a the Stalag Luft I POW camp in Barth, Germany, for five months. He received the Air Medal and POW Medal.
