The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit Court ruled Tuesday that Sedalia Police Officer John Cook acted lawfully in connection with a 2007 shooting that killed Sedalia resident David Morgan.
According to reports, Cook fired a single shot into Morgan’s chest after Morgan moved toward him with a knife during a domestic disturbance. Morgan’s estate sued Cook for excessive force but the Court of Appeals ruled, “given all of the facts, we find that Cook’s act of shooting Morgan was objectively reasonable.”
