Duke Manufacturing Inc. recently donated $5,000 to the Buddy Pack program, to ensure Sedalia elementary students will receive a backpack full of food to take home for the weekend.

“Duke sees the big picture and the details in hunger-relief,” said CEO of The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri Peggy Kirkpatrick. “The stainless steel tables they donated to The Food Bank last year allow more than 38,000 volunteers to package food for our pantries and this year’s donation will pay for food food hungry children in Pettis County.”

The Buddy Pack programs allows children who qualify for free and reduced lunch to bring home a back pack filled with kid-friendly, nutritious food on weekends or holiday periods to supplement meals when there is not enough for them to eat. During the 2012-13 school-year, the program helped feed more than 6,700 children across central and northeast Missouri each week.

“We feel this is a great opportunity to give back and truly appreciate the work The Food Bank does for our community,” said Duke CEO Jack Hake.
