Norma Gravitt-Poindexter was nominated as Nurse of the Year at Grady Health Systems in Atlanta. She received this award based on her national model as a nurse, her interpersonal skills with customers, teamwork, compassion and integrity. The award was given during National Nurse’s Week and she was chosen out of 45 other nominees.
As the winner, she received two round-trip airfare tickets to anywhere in the United States with limousine service to and from the airport, gift card to several restaurants in Buckhead, a day at Spa Sydell, $500 in cash and a special parking space for a year.
She is working in the intensive care unit at Grady and is a part-time clinical instructor at the University of West Georgia. She has been accepted into the doctorate of nursing practice program at Chatham University. She received her associate degree in nursing from State Fair Community College in 1987.
She is the daughter of Rosa Gravitt, of Sedalia, and the late Samuel Gravitt Sr. She is married to Kevin Poindexter who owns P&P Construction Co. in Marietta, Ga.
