The Missouri Valley Community Action Agency is organizing its second annual “Ending Poverty, One Step at a Time” event.
Organizers are seeking support from the community, elected officials, faith-based groups and low-income citizens. The activity is a relay walk through the seven counties to raise awareness of hunger.
The kickoff will be at 8 a.m. Sept. 17 in Marshall at the Saline County Courthouse. The walk begin at 9 a.m. Walkers will leave the courthouse and travel on Highway 65 south to Sedalia.
The first day will end with a rally at 5 p.m. at the Pettis County Courthouse. The rally will include music, food, speakers from the community and information about what the community is doing to combat poverty.
Walkers will be needed to travel from Marshall to Sedalia. The second leg of the walk will begin at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 18, from Sedalia to Knob Noster and then to Warrensburg. organizers need walkers then, too.
The rally and walk are open to the public. Volunteers are also needed to assist with rest stops along the way.
