An Independence man died of injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 50 in Johnson County Tuesday, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.

Jeb B. Cossey, 26, was taken by helicopter to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, where he died at 8:53 a.m. Tuesday. The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. at U.S. 50 and Missouri Route Z, according to the patrol report.

Cossey’s northbound vehicle failed to yield to a tractor-trailer truck driven by Steven W. Gorecke, 36, of Harrison, Ark., the patrol reported. The truck had been headed west on U.S. 50 when it hit Cossey’s vehicle, which ran off the road and overturned. Cossey was thrown from the vehicle. Gorecke suffered minor injuries but declined treatment, the patrol reported.
