Blackwater Chapel Methodist Church will host its annual homecoming celebration Sunday at the church in northwest Pettis County.
The 172-year-old church, located in Blackwater Township, includes a historic cemetery that is the resting place of about 650 people, including veterans from the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I and World War II.
Parishoner Helen Cunningham said the church remains home to about 30 members, though weekly service attendance has diminished over the years.
“The church and the cemetery have seen a lot of history come and go,” Cunningham said.
The event will begin with a potluck lunch at noon, followed by a program set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
