Sedalia Democrat journalists captured five first-place honors and nine awards in total in the Missouri Associated Press Media Editors newspaper awards for work published in 2012.

Sports reporter Eric Ingles won first place in sports features for his piece on Chuck Rodewald, who ran the Chicago Marathon as a tribute to his wife, Chi, who died of brain cancer three days before the race. Former Democrat sports reporter Seth Stringer took top honors in spot sports reporting for his coverage of Smith-Cotton High School’s 35-6 loss to conference foe Helias High. Sports Editor Kyle Smith received third place in spot sports reporting for his story about Washington winning the American Legion AAA state baseball title.
