The Infectious Diseases Society of America has awarded Dr. George R. Thompson III, a faculty member of the University of California-Davis Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and a 1995 Smith-Cotton High School graduate, the 2012 Program Committee Choice Award for his work on invasion of the central nervous system by Cryptococcus spp.
Thompson’s work was highlighted at an awards presentation on the opening night of the conference in San Diego, during which four presentations were honored for outstanding scientific research. IDWeek12 is the first combined meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the HIV Medicine Association and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and was attended by more than 5,000 health care professionals.
