The Sedalia Symphony Orchestra will kick-off its 74th season in October.
The River City Ramblers from St. Louis will perform with the orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Smith-Cotton High School auditorium.
The Ramblers, pictured above, offer Dixieland jazz with Bob Ceccarini on trumpet, Red Lehr on tuba, Bobby Grimm on banjo, Pat Joyce on piano, Scott Alberici on clarinet, and Joe Buerger on drums. They enjoy performing classics like “St. Louis Blues,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
Dr. Mia Hynes will join the orchestra on March 2, 2009. She is the director of the University of Central Missouri’s music preparatory department and is an associate professor of piano. She has performed across North America, and has been featured on National Public Radio. She has performed at the Library of Congress and at the United Nations, as well as with the Kansas City Symphony. She conducted the Warrensburg Area Youth Symphony from 1997 to 2002.
Celloist Darry Dolezal will hit the stage on April 20, 2009. He teaches cello and chamber music at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he also performs with MU’s Esterhazy Quartet. He has performed throughout the United States and Canada, including Carnegie Hall. While he has interpreted several classic pieces, he has premiered more than 100 new compositions.
