Nolen: Congress now looking more like all of country

Posted: Thursday, January 3, 2013 10:35 pm

This is a woman’s kind of year. We can hope it’s a year when men wake up to the fact that they cannot make the decisions about what women can and cannot do with their bodies. During the past few years, men have taken it upon themselves to have the last word on what women do with their bodies. This is a battle they are destined to lose. We hope they realize that.

This year women are making a real difference in the U.S. Congress. There are now 20 women in the U.S. Senate. There are 28 women of color in the House, nine Latinos and six Asian/Pacific Islanders. Congress will never be the same. In New Hampshire, the three top elected officials are female. For so long, men have held political power. We hope they can see the writing on the wall.
