Lefevers: Preschool should start at home, not with feds

Posted: Sunday, March 17, 2013 10:57 pm | Updated: 11:05 pm, Sun Mar 17, 2013.

State and federal programs in the U.S. currently assist more than 50 million people with basic living expenses. This number is increasing at an alarming rate of 17 percent per year. To put that number into perspective, the states of Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee and West Virginia, combined equal 50.3 million people, according to the census bureau. Next year, we can theoretically expect to add the state of Virginia, with a population of 8.3 million people, to that total.

Currently, our national debt hovers at $16.7 trillion, we have no federal budget and sequestration has cast a dark shadow over the entire country.
