The annual visit to share wishes for a most-desired toy with the big beard himself, Santa Claus, is a tradition in many families and in many communities. Through the Santa House on the Pettis County Courthouse lawn, it was a longtime “must-do” for dozens of Christmas seasons in Sedalia.
That tradition is on track to make a comeback, as representatives from the Salvation Army and the Downtown Business Boosters group have thrown their support behind reinstating the Santa House — and Mr. and Mrs. Claus — in a small structure outside the courthouse. Sue Foster, AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer coordinator for Salvation Army, told the Democrat’s Bob Satnan that a couple of volunteer Santas already have offered to take up residence in the house and listen to children’s wish lists. Also, Porta & Grace Midwest will provide the building and decorations free of charge.
