Anyone tuning in to the Olympics, or pretty much anything else on commercial television recently, has been victim of the assault of screeching, smears and overstatement in the current crop of hate-laden negative political advertising.
The nonstop trashing of opponents — whether in the opposing party or not — would have become a wall of white noise by now except for the fact that it is so distasteful, so mean-spirited and so repugnant that it leaves viewers feeling like they are the ones made filthy from all of the mud-slinging. And it leaves the impression that none of these candidates are worthy of holding any office.
