Smith-Cotton DECA looks ahead to international competition

Smith-Cotton DECA members Mike Pugh, Trey Napier and Joseph Rodewald earned an early invitation to DECA’s International Competition by placing first in the Central Region in the online Virtual Business Restaurant Challenge.


The trio successfully managed a restaurant, earning more profit than any other team in the 13-state region.


Other S-C DECA members are hopeful they will join Pugh, Napier and Rodewald at the International contest, which will be held in Anaheim, Calif. S-C will be represented at the state DECA conference by 23 students, who qualfied for that competition with their performances at Wednesday’s District 4 DECA Conference at Independence Center.


Moving on to the state competition are:


•Keegan Kendrick and Zach Wolf, first place in Entrepreneurship Growing Your Business


•Olivia Funk, first place in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism


•Pugh and Rodewald, first place in Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making


•Carter Noble, first place; Noah Shepard, fourth place in Automotive Services Marketing


•Ashlee Slack, first place; Haily Tejada, fourth place in Business Services Marketing


•Abby Monsees, second place in Marketing Management Series


•Tayler Gero, Megan Lollis and Elena Sharp, second place in Public Relations Project


•Samantha Hansen and Trey Napier, second place in Financial Services Team Decision Making


•Cameron Harris, Lyndsey Jackson and Kelsey Webb, second place in Community Service Project


•Hayley Escobar-Petersen, Caleb Stathem and Brandon Ogweno, third place in Advertising Campaign


•Ayden Bartley and Logan Meier, third place in Sports and Entertainment Team Decision Making


•Noble, Kahnner Cunningham, and Trever Haugen, fourth place in Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan


Each student attending the International Conference is responsible for earning $1,000 to cover travel and accomodations.
