Twenty choirs from 12 school districts will compete on Jan. 5 at the State Fair Community College invitational Show Choir Festival on the Sedalia campus.
Performances by area junior high and high school show choirs will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
Admission is $5 for the day; attendees may leave and re-enter throughout the day.
More than 400 singers and instrumentalists are expected to perform, one of the largest numbers SFCC has had for the festival. They will compete for awards in a variety of divisions, including outstanding performance in small, medium and large school classifications, as well as mixed and girls’ choirs. Best Male and Female Performer, Best of Show, Best Vocal Sound, Best Ballad Performance and Best Choreography will also be awarded.
High school choirs scheduled to perform are from Blair Oaks, Cole Camp, Green Ridge, Harrisonville, Jefferson City, Knob Noster, Lincoln, Maryville, Sedalia, Smithton, Warrensburg and Atchison, Kan. Junior high choirs from Blair Oaks and Smith-Cotton Junior High also will perform.
Proceeds help support the college’s Music Arts program.
