Opening for Folds will be Street Corner Symphony, the band that was the runner-up in Season 2 of NBC’s “The Sing-off.”
Folds is an American singer-songwriter and instrumentalist who performs as a solo artist and collaborates with other musicians. He plays piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums, keytar and synthesizer.
Folds began to play piano at age 9 when his father, a carpenter, brought one home in a barter agreement with a customer who was unable to pay cash. Folds played piano, bass, and drums in several high school bands while growing up in Winston-Salem, N.C.
In the 1980s and early ’90s, Folds played with several bands, attended the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami and acted in New York theater groups. After moving back to North Carolina, he formed Ben Folds Five in 1994.
When the group disbanded, Folds went solo, releasing “Rockin’ the Suburbs” in 2001. His 2008 album “Way to Normal” debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2009, he was featured as a judge on NBC’s a cappella competition, “The Sing Off.”
Folds’ newest album, “Lonely Avenue,” a collaboration with author Nick Hornby, was released in 2010.
