UCM theater to present 1-act plays

The University of Central Missouri Department of Theatre & Dance will present three one-act plays as a part of its Studio Theatre series at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 3 and 4 in the BlackBox Theatre on the first floor of Nickerson Hall on the Warrensburg campus.

Admission is $1. Due to limited seating, arriving at least 30 minutes in advance is recommended. Some material may be suitable for mature audiences only and children younger than 5 will not be admitted.

The one-acts to be presented include “Breakfast and Bed” by Amy Fox, “... Art” by Bekah Brunstetter and “Comings and Goings” by Megan Terry. Every play is performed, directed and designed by UCM students.

“Breakfast and Bed,” directed by Adam Tucker with technical direction by Danny Lindsay, surrounds two women on their search for their true identity. With little time left, both women are bound by curiosity and guilt as they reach for a new meaning to life. The show will feature Lizzie Aldridge as Lex and Miranda Powers as Elloise.

“... Art,” directed by Alex McCale with technical direction by Bobby Wearing, is about a teenage boy, Art, who is dying from cancer and the daring young girl that plans to be his first and last sexual experience. The charming interchange between the couple that is first filled with nervous energy and small talk soon opens up to a theological conversation about what it means to die and what comes after death. These unlikely friends learn to understand each other and become one another’s comfort in the face of tragedy. The show features Steven Covert as Art and Brooklyn Bowman as Gal.

“Comings and Goings,” directed by Karen Billingsley with technical direction by Ben Whitcomb, explores varying types of relationships through a series of heartfelt and honest scenes. From exchanges between lovers to interactions between total strangers, this piece explores the little moments people can share that make life both wonderful and heartbreaking. This show features Derek Trautwein as He and June Copperfield as She.
