SFCC ‘Emerald Evening' gala to fund student scholarships
A “Sedalia Stars” dance competition, live auction and a chance to win an emerald ring will highlight the State Fair Community College Foundation’s fourth annual fundraising gala on March 10 in the Stauffacher Center for the Fine Arts on the Sedalia campus.
The gala, “An Emerald Evening,” is open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. It will include a social hour, dinner, live auction, entertainment by the SFCC Jazz Runners jazz band and Cynthia Groff, and the foundation’s fourth annual dance competition.
Honorary chairpersons will be Carol Mason and Zachary Mason.
The live auction will feature a 10-day trip for two to Ireland (airfare not included); a two-night stay at Tan-Tar-A and two rounds of golf; “The Emerald Forest,” a painting by local artist Doug Freed; a watercolor by Southwestern artist Pat Wolf; and a set of two art deco theater seats from the Uptown Theatre in downtown Sedalia.
In “Emerald Chance,” guests will have the opportunity to buy chances for prizes from gift certificates to an emerald green tourmaline ring donated by Bichsel Jewelry. Chances will be $100 each and every chance will contain a prize.
The dance competition, similar to the TV show “Dancing With the Stars,” will feature five couples from the community: John Dawes and Krista Lowe, David Henderson and Lisa Ditzfeld, David Albrecht and Melinda Moore, Joe Gilgour and Sarah Grupe, and Brody Kempton and Allison Tester.
Choreographers from Center Stage Academy of the Performing Arts are providing instruction for participating dancers.
The master of ceremonies will be Jim Shoemaker. Judges will be former “Sedalia Stars” dancers. Guests also may cast $1 votes for couples during the competition.
Gala tickets are $125 per person. Tables of 10 also may be reserved or sponsored for $1,250 by individuals, groups or businesses. Proceeds will help fund student scholarships and programs. Last year’s benefit raised more than $60,000.
Cocktail attire is suggested. Valet parking will be available at the south Yeater Learning Center entrance located off Clarendon Road.
