Sedalia Animal Shelter Manager Jamie Ditzfeld received $10,000 from the estate of Allen B. Bess, by personal representative Kenneth Joe Wasson and attorney Stanley Cox. Bess, a 35-year accounting professor at the University of Evansville in Indiana, had a special love for music and animals. He was known to befriend every stray cat that came his way. He wanted his donation to go to the shelter to help care for animals who do not presently have homes. He was an active member of Granite Lodge 272 and the York Rite Masons. He also was a member of First Baptist Church and several other civic organizations. He played trombone for the Sedalia Concert Band. He died Nov. 14 at the age of 83.
