Columnist Nolen needs to look on bright side

Posted: Saturday, November 27, 2010 12:00 am | Updated: 10:39 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Democrat columnist Rose Nolen never lets me down. Each Friday, she manages to produce a column of unbridled negativity and gloom. If one did not read the date on the paper’s masthead, you would think it is 1960 again and the dogs and fire hoses were in play on Ohio Street. Or, as in another recent column, that the streets are full of Sedalians selling apples and pencils and asking if you can spare a dime.

While the times we live in have yet to reach Utopian levels, life in the Sedalia area is not that bad. In spite of Nolan’s view of our local economy, we still make things in Sedalia and employ a lot of people in doing it. In fact, the diversified economy of Sedalia is the envy of many medium-sized cities nationally and our economic development people are among the most talented in Missouri. Just this year alone, we have opened a Menard’s, Tractor Supply Company and a new food outlet is coming into the old Goody’s location — and the New Year will see more new business development for Sedalia.
