Letter writer wasn’t following health care ruling

Posted: Wednesday, July 4, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 11:51 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

It is obvious Chuck Cousins (“Dislike court’s ruling? Time to take action,” Monday) wasn’t following the ruling on the health care act. President George W. Bush’s appointee to the Supreme Court decided the penalty was a tax and therefore legal. Is there another way to “penalize” non-compliant people? Jail maybe?

I would wager Cousins (and our politicians) have employee-based health care. It is easier to be opposed to things that don’t personally affect us. Rep. Vicky Hartzler talks about “fiscally sustainable health care.” It is sustainable now, with so many uninsured, by continually increasing health care and insurance costs to those paying for it. It could be fiscally sustainable by barring noninsured people (poor and chronically ill) from health care, letting them die in the streets or at home.
