Cole Camp — Chris and Paula Kappleman, owners of 4-K Cheese & Meats in Cole Camp, have expanded their business again with the addition of a cafe that seats approximately 40 people and  will be serving up lunches five days a week and full-menu dinners Thursdays and Fridays.

When Das Edelweiss Restaurant opened in Warsaw in1994, its owners, Marianne Lee and her daughter, Peggy Scroggins, worked themselves to exhaustion, and when the popular eating place closed in 1997 customers lined the sidewalk to say goodbye.

My love affair with fresh food started in childhood. Growing up in a family with 6 children it was necessary for us to have our own vegetable garden in the back yard. I remember picking green beans and helping prepare them for our evening meal. I also remember helping with the canning and the freezing of our freshly picked produce.

Highlighting the last week of the State Fair food competitions, Megan Roe White, of Cole Camp, took home the Grand Champion ribbon for her Hawaiian delight pie in the Missouri First Lady’s Pie Contest sponsored by Starline Brass and AgriMissouri on Thursday.
